3 reviews for Microsoft Word In 30 Minutes, Second Edition (paperback)

  1. Frank

The publisher sent me an advance copy of “Microsoft Word in 30 Minutes” to review, and I was pleasantly surprised. It’s a good book. I guess I wasn’t expecting much because of the “in 30 minutes” part of the title, but I found it a very well written, nicely illustrated, clear and concise overview of Word 2016 for beginners. If you’re an intermediate or advanced user of other versions of Word, you probably don’t need it. There are some new features in Word 2016, but they’re not incomprehensible. But if you’re new to Word, or haven’t worked with Word’s ribbon bar before (or you just learn better from books and manuals), then I think you’ll find this little volume a real help.

The author covers all the basics very clearly, and there are even cat anecdotes to liven up the text, which I enjoyed. It covers everything you need to get up to speed on using Word, and all that’s left is the practice–and the journey of discovery involved in using the program. It’s sometimes frustrating (Word, not the book), but it’s the standard, so it’s well worth your while to learn it and learn it well. It’s a tool designed to help anyone who works with words, and it’ll save you both time and money if you know how to use it well.

The back of the book has a list of keyboard shortcuts as well as a nice index with hyperlinks to the pages in it. (I read the PDF version.) That in itself is a touch of professionalism; since I’m an indexer, I know how much longer it takes to prepare an index like that. They’ve obviously put a lot of thought and work into this book, so if you’re just getting started in Word, give it a try.

Especially helped me with another piece of a puzzle to me on on how to finish making my illustrations stay on page where I wanted it to stay.

I enjoyed this book I would recommend this book.
